Dispelling the Myths of Beacons

Feature The Myth The Truth
Battery Life Batteries lose their power after a few months.

What really effects the battery lifespan of a beacon is the firmware settings, physical environment and size of battery.

Our Tag+ asset tracking beacons have a battery lifespan of 18 to 24 months, while our 2AA asset tracking beacon has a lifespan of 6+ years. The reason for this longevity lies in our proprietary firmware, which manages the broadcast power and intervals. The Tag+ beacons have a coin cell battery (2032) and the 2AA beacons use alkaline or lithium AA batteries.

Tracking and Privacy Beacons are collecting data and tracking me

Beacons do not collect data; they simply broadcast a signal that mobile apps can detect. The privacy policy of the application on your mobile device determines what is done with the location information derived from that data, however no PII is shared with Footmarks . We are only passed the Beacons ID, Lat/Long and a timestamp.

The focus of the SmartTracking platform is to determine the location of physical assets, such as product displays.
